Sail Loft, Fowey

Lilly Lewarne were commissioned in 2013 to come up with a design to renovate an existing artist’s studio in a former sail loft in Fowey to a residence. The Sail Loft and boathouse establishes itself as one of a number of quay wall buildings fronting the river Fowey which detail various styles from many architectural eras.The site had many difficult aspects including access and also is prone to flooding at High Tide! The main significance of interest of the site is its linear form and relationship to the medieval settlement pattern and it is this that is to be retained throughout. The design is for new 2 bedroom apartment accommodation on the First floor with access to a workshop/boat store and slipway on the Ground Floor which will breathe new life into a key building on the waterfront. Construction is currently underway and due for completion early in 2018.
