A key part of the brief from the client was to maximise the potential of the elevated site by establishing a strong connection with the surrounding environment and capitalising on the panoramic views over the charming village of Perranuthnoe and the expansive sea beyond.
The design embraces its rural setting, seamlessly integrating the home with the natural landscape. Expansive glazing to the first floor living space ensures that natural light floods the interior, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere while offering uninterrupted views of the picturesque surroundings.
A significant feature of the dwelling is the use of robust local materials, which not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also ensure the building blends harmoniously with its environment. Cornish granite sourced from a local quarry and reclaimed Delabole slate were meticulously chosen for their durability and timeless beauty. These materials echo the vernacular architecture of the area and contribute to the dwelling’s seamless integration into the wider Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The thoughtful use of materials not only respects the local heritage but also creates a sense of permanence and belonging. The stonework’s earthy tones and textures complement the natural hues of the surrounding landscape, making the dwelling a positive and coherent addition to its locale.
This replacement dwelling in Perranuthnoe demonstrates how thoughtful design can harmonise with and enhance the natural environment. By using local materials and focusing on natural light and panoramic views, the project creates a home that is both beautiful and functional, making a significant and positive contribution to its rural setting and the wider Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
