Gyllingdune Manor, Falmouth
A scheme of 27 residential apartments, again in the Falmouth Conservation Area and adjacent to Princess Pavilions , and in the setting of an historic – although not Listed – Georgian Manor house, which had been unsympathetically extended and converted to hotel use in the late Victorian period. Lilly Lewarne Architects were commissioned to submit new proposals based on residential use by Rowe Property Developments, that retained and respected what remained of the Georgian House and its landscape setting while replacing the mass of later Victorian development, constituting around 70% of the existing buildings, with a subtler and more fitting contemporary extension. Ultimately, serious collapse of the original manor during construction required that the building be reconstructed entirely, to externally match the original in all respects.
