Annandale, Roseland
Category: Residential
Location: Veryan Green, Roseland
Annandale is located in Veryan Green, a coastal Village on the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall. The property, formerly a pair of semi-detached cottages was constructed in the 1920’s comprising solid masonry external walls with a more recent extension to the South East Elevation.
Lilly Lewarne Architects were approached to re-design the internal layout to work as a single dwelling that would include the clients wish to create a bright, open-plan living space that seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor areas. Their goal was to preserve the charm of the original cottages while creating a contemporary home that prioritises functionality, comfort, and a strong connection to their newly landscaped garden.
Key to achieving this vision was a carefully designed extension, providing the space necessary for a spacious, light-filled kitchen, dining and living area. A vaulted ceiling with strategically placed rooflights floods the space with natural light, enhancing the open-plan layout. The extension features expansive glazed doors enhancing the connection with the garden.
The development included thermal upgrading to all existing external walls and floors through the use of an insulated lime plaster from Cornish Lime.
Throughout the project, we worked to maintain the cottages’ historical charm, retaining original materials and features where possible. These heritage elements are now complemented by sleek, modern finishes and a traditional palette, ensuring the Cornish Cottage feel of the dwelling was retained.
